VW Bus- Bamboo Floor
After doing the interior of 1977 VW Bus with carpet, I found something better.
I was at the Thrift Store and I found a box of Bamboo Flooring.
Six foot long, hand scraped Bamboo flooring.
This stuff is usually about $7.00 a square foot.
$3.98 is what I paid for it. It was marked down from $9.98.
I had hardwood flooring in my Hi Top VW Bus. I like it.
Bamboo Flooring is a pretty good alternative for Hardwood Flooring.
Especially for $3.98...

Tachometer for my VW Bus
Here's my Tachometer for my 1977 VW Bus.
I got it at the dump in North Carolina.
Evidently you can drop your old boat or just about anything.
Eventually it gets smashed up and disposed of.
When me and my Dad were at the dump, we decided to
take the entire gauge cluster. I figure the boat was from the late seventies.
The tachometer had a look that will hopefully blend into the bus.
Free, is a good price for the Tachometer, if it works.....

VW Bus, actually a VW Microbus that I got for Christmas
I've said before, I like VW Bus stuff.
I really enjoy Baywindow bus stuff, mainly because the demand is less.
Demand is less, therefore less Baywindow Bus stuff out there.
So when I see stuff, I try to pick it up.
My Girlfriend found this really cool MicroBus and got it for me for Christmas.
I think it's neat, it's a mini diorama complete with it's own little highway.
There's more in my Flickr.. Here's a couple to check out.

1976 Hi-Top VW Bus- I got one...
Recently, I had the chance to fix up my 1977 VW Bus.
It needs work, as they all do. I was going to take some money and try to finish it.
It's been a slow process and I feel guilty about not putting more effort into to it.
So, when I had the chance to put some time and money into the 77Bus, I didn't....
Instead, I picked up a bus that I had been watching on www.thesamba.com for about a year..
It's a 1976 Hitop VW.
It has a fiberglass shell on the top of the bus, and the ceiling has been removed, to allow more head room.
I really like the look of the HiTop. It's tall enough to stand in, it has storage, and personality.
It has a skylight, roll out windows and a cathedral ceiling.
It has closets and storage areas, it's like a small house.
Perfect for camping. Personally, I don't think that sleeping on the ground is camping.
That's what animals do. I'm smarter than an animal.
Plus, I'm scared of them. Most will claw your eyes out.
I'm not an animal so the ground, bugs, rain, wild animal attack thing- is not a pleasant thought for me.
In the safety of the bus, with all the usual comforts, camping may be fun.
So it begins........I'll post pictures and try to document progress on enhancements on things I do the bus...
If I have guest writers for this blog, they will post in a different color text. This blog is going to encompass a bunch of different things, they will mainly be related to VW bus stuff.

Bus People are unique..
I took the day off from work yesterday.
I went over to sand on the Bus. Still sanding.
Actually I enjoy sanding. I think of it as a book title- Zen, and the art of Bus sanding.
Sanding is mindless work, requires physical activity- but really requires very little brain power.
You sand to remove old material.. in order to apply new material.
You concentrate on sanding and everything else falls away- a Zen like state is obtained and in the end, you are one step closer. To driving your bus.
Back to Bus people- I was going to sand on the bus- but decided to wash and vacuum my car.
It was Amy's idea and it was a good one. ( She was going to do her van and my car was in the line of fire anyway.) I was starting to vacuum and Amy's neighbor came over and handed me a 1969 VW Bus owners manual.

He told me about his bus and when he sold it in the 70's. He thought I might like the manual. He was right. It's VW treasure. He's had that manual since 1969.
I was born in 1970.
Bus people are unique-to hold on to that manual for 37 years is something most people don't do.
I've had my car since 2002 and I can't find mine.
I really enjoy the manual, its in good shape and it
helps me to figure out what- does what.

Here's the fuse box and light bulb requirements.
Both of these are large and may be Really helpful..
These pictures are large- you can click on them and the larger size might be useful.
Even if your model year is different, they are common aspects between all the buses.

This one is larger.
